Painting

Painting as the Foundation of My Practice

Painting has been the cornerstone of my artistic practice since the earliest days of my career. From a young age, I devoted myself to painting, finding that even when I paused to explore other creative interests—such as sculpture—I consistently returned to painting. Painting offers me clarity, enabling me to see the world in a dynamic way and providing inspiration to tackle the complex challenges involved in creating large-scale sculptures. While painting possesses a fluid, timeless quality, monumental sculpture is tangible, substantial, and bound by space and time. Despite the demanding nature of sculptural work, painting remains an accessible and invigorating pursuit.

Influence of Abstract Expressionism

The discovery of abstract expressionism had a profound impact on my approach to art. This movement provided the impetus I needed to focus my efforts, helping me overcome personal challenges that previously hindered my progress. Abstract expressionism allowed me to find coherence in my work, shaping both my artistic vision and execution. Even though my current focus leans more toward sculpture, painting continues to inspire and inform my creative process.

Educational Background

I graduated from the New World School of the Arts in Miami with a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts, specializing in painting. My artistic education continued in Paris at the National School of Fine Arts, where I learned classical painting techniques. Although my primary ambition has always been to create monumental sculpture, and painting has at times postponed this goal, I have no regrets. Painting remains a fundamental part of my identity and my journey as an artist.

Portfolio Selection

Over the past 35 years, I have created hundreds of paintings. For this portfolio, I have selected a representative sample of my work. While ideally a portfolio consists of an artist’s finest pieces, compiling selections from such an extensive body of work presents unique challenges. Nevertheless, I am confident that the works featured here accurately reflect the quality and depth of my artistic practice.
